How to make a screenshot (capture the screen) in Mac OS X
Making a screenshot under Mac OS X is extremely easy and you can do it in few ways, depending on what exactly you want to get.
There is just few key combinations you need to remember.
- To capture entire screen and save it as PNG file to your desktop press Command+Shift+3 simultaneously.
- To make a screenshot of the entire desktop and keep it in the clipboard (keep it ready to paste it into other application) press Command+Control+Shift+3.
- After pressing Command+Shift+4 a cross-hair cursor will appear and you will be able to select the area of your screen to capture. When you release the mouse/trackpad the selection will be saved to your desktop as a PNG file.
- Pressing Command+Control+Shift+4 will do the same as above but the picture will be saved to clipboard and will be ready to paste it into another application.
- If you press Command+Shift+4 and after that Spacebar, the cursor will change to a camera. You will be able to select which window or bar to capture. When you click mouse/trackpad the entire selected window/bar will be saved automatically to your desktop as PNG file (even if not fully visible).
- Command+Control+Shift+4 combination and then Spacebar will do the same as above but the picture will be saved to clipboard and will be ready to paste it into another application.
